Nursing My Baby to Sleep Mothers' Stories
Rosemarie, Rugby, UK
Rosemary & Caitlin by Lisa Scott Photography

Nursing my baby to sleep makes my nights easier.

I breastfed my first daughter, Hannah, and Caitlin is my second baby. Breastfeeding Caitlin has enabled me to continue being an active mother for Hannah. When Caitlin wakes up for a feed in the middle of the night, all I need do is put her next to me and I go back to sleep. Caitlin nurses and goes back to sleep. I’m not tired and so can manage to look after Hannah at 7 am in the morning.

I was photographed for a breastfeeding calendar in a series of photos in which Caitlin is depicted falling asleep at my breast. It was fun to take part in the photo shoot and the pictures are something I can look back on with pride when my girls are older.

Breastfeeding and bedsharing seem to go hand in hand for many families. Nursing my baby to sleep, I feel cozy, I feel snug, I feel loved, and I’m sure my baby feels the same way.
