My son Luca is now 15 months old and we are still going strong on our breastfeeding journey. These images are from when he was about seven months old.
Luca was born slightly prematurely at 35 weeks and weighed 6lb. He spent some time in the neonatal intensive care unit and I didn’t get to hold him in skin-to-skin contact or attempt to breastfeed him for some time after he was born. Thankfully this separation did not interfere with our ability to breastfeed successfully and he’s now a thriving toddler.
When Luca was ten weeks old his father and I separated. It’s been pretty tough, a hard road to travel on: going through a divorce, taking care of a new baby, all the while trying to figure out this whole motherhood thing and breastfeeding.
However, I have to say, beside giving birth to him, nursing him has been the greatest accomplishment of my life. The first time he latched on was a moment I shall never ever forget. It was beautiful, surprising, and it just felt right.
Luca is my pride and joy. He’s my love, my life, and my little savior. He’s been the biggest blessing and being able to nurse him for as long as I have has truly been something I will always cherish and be grateful for.
